H1N1 FAQ

What is H1N1 (Swine flu)? The swine flu’s real name is H1N1 type A influenza. It got its name because the virus that causes swine flu comes from pigs. The disease itself is unrelated to pigs or swine.


How can you prevent swine flu? To prevent swine flu, you must cover your mouth when you cough and sneeze. You also need to wash your hands very often.


What should you do if you get swine flu? You should stay home at least 24 hours after the disease has gone. You should also avoid contact with others except for medical treatment. Also, some foods that might help include chicken soup, garlic, and popsicles.


Who is at highest risk? Young children under two, pregnant women, the elderly, and people with asthma are at the most risk for getting the swine flu.


What are some symptoms? Symptoms include fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose, headaches, and fatigue as well as regular flu symptoms.
